Louis Vuitton may be best known for its hardwearing bags, but the luxury house has also an impressive collection of decadent fragrances. Read on to uncover our ranking of the 15 best Louis Vuitton perfumes.

Louis Vuitton is one of the most famous fashion houses, based in the perfume capital of the world, Paris, France. But what you may not know is that the French fashion house has been making fine fragrances for a long time, too.

Back in the 1920s, Louis Vuitton had a functioning fragrance branch of its business. But in the 1950s, a fire destroyed the building, and with it, all the perfume formulae were lost forever. This left the fashion house without any perfume offerings for years – that is until it decided to collaborate with master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.

Cavallier had seen much previous success in the perfume industry. He was one of the noses behind both Jean Paul Gaultier Classique and Eau D’Issey by Issey Miyake. He had also worked extensively with the fragrance team at Yves Saint Laurent. So it was no wonder Cavallier was chosen as one of Louis Vuitton’s first clients.

Best Louis Vuitton perfumes: City Of Stars

In 2012, Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud began his working relationship with Louis Vuitton Perfumes. He worked at the iconic Les Fontaines Parfumées, a 16th-century estate in Grasse that serves as LVMH’s fragrance headquarters. The venue famously has a perfume fountain, which flows with fragranced water all day long.

Because all of the original scents had been destroyed, he was left with an enormous creative task. The result of Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with top perfumer Jacques Cavallier was the 2016 collection Les Parfums Louis Vuitton, available only in Louis Vuitton stores.

Since 2016, the brand has come a long way, growing its perfume collection into a real gem within the industry. Each Louis Vuitton scent is expertly crafted and incredibly unique. There’s just one problem for perfume lovers – where to begin within this extensive fragrance range!

Well, our round-up of the best Louis Vuitton Perfumes is here to help. If you’re looking for a brand new signature scent, and want to explore the range of Louis Vuitton, look no further!

The scent is designed to be uplifting to wear, and to evoke a sense of euphoria!

Louis Vuitton Attrape-Rêves is a perfect combination of a fresh and floral scent. It opens with fruit-forward scents, though, with a sweet and spicy combination of lychee and ginger, elevated by a citrus burst, courtesy of bergamot.

Fresh rose bouquets make up the heart notes of this stunning scent. Alongside Turkish rose, you’ll notice a peony boosting those floral notes, plus cacao adding a sweet and slightly spicy element.

At the scent’s base is a heavy hit of fresh and herbaceous patchouli. This adds some earthiness and depth to the perfume while maintaining that sweet and dreamy vibe. Base notes of musk also help to round out the uplifting perfume.

Contre Moi Eau de Parfum has a primary accord of Madagascar Vanilla. This sweet and creamy element is cut through, though, with some slightly sharper top notes, and grounded with some deeper and muskier base notes.

The scent opens with a big herbal hit. You’ll also notice a mouthwatering citrus scent, thanks to notes of bergamot and lemon. As this initial fresh, green aroma warms up on the skin, floral heart notes of magnolia, orange blossom, and gorgeous rose come into the mix. A note of juicy pear helps to maintain that distinctive fruitiness, too.

As the scent progresses, its warm, sweet base notes come out to play. Alongside sweet vanilla, you’ll notice a white musk aroma, courtesy of Ambrette, plus some earthy spiciness thanks to raw cocoa powder.

Couer Battant is the most aquatic scent in the Louis Vuitton line. You’ll immediately notice its powerful watery notes, reminiscent of sunny days on a beach or yacht. Alongside these aquatic notes, this is a surprisingly sweet, floral, and woody fragrance, too.

Couer Battant opens with a light airy cloud of sweet pear and musk mallow. These notes are complemented by the unusual aquatic note of cascalone, which gives the impression of fresh water and a slightly fruity hue.

The key notes of the scent are a heady bloom of white flowers, with Egyptian jasmine, narcissus, and ylang-ylang all doing some heavy lifting. And as the scent progresses, the deeper, more earthy base notes come out to play.

You’ll notice some earthy and mossy notes, still with an element of sweetness, thanks to the inclusion of patchouli. But that strong hit of cascalone remains prevalent throughout, making this a perfect fragrance for the summer months.

Louis Vuitton Le Jour Se Lève is the most citrus-based offering from the fragrance line. But if you worry that citrus-based perfumes can smell a little bit like cleaning products, Le Jour Se Lève will prove that this simply isn’t the case.

The first time you spritz on Le Jour Se Lève, you will notice those prominent citrus notes. But because these notes are extremely well-rounded, they feel complex and sophisticated. There’s a big juicy cloud of grapefruit, mandarin, orange, and bergamot. There’s some extra interest added to these citrus fruits with sharp blackcurrant, too.

The heart notes of the fragrance are rather floral and green, adding some refinement to this citrusy scent. You’ll be able to pick out some fresh flowers, including lily of the valley, jasmine, peony, magnolia, and different kinds of roses. Green notes keep the fragrance fresh, while osmanthus flower adds a sweet, milky, apricot vibe.

This fragrance dries down into a vanilla and musk skin scent. The perfume also employs the super interesting ingredient Iso E Super, which melts into the skin and turns into a cozy, woody aroma that’s unique to every wearer!

The scent comprises three major citrus notes. You’ll first notice the sweet juiciness of mandarin orange, followed quickly by the slightly more tart and even bitter note of Sicilian blood orange. California Dream opens with head notes of mandarin orange. However, it’s not as citrusy as typical colognes, as this orange note is instead supported by juicy pear, which offers some more straightforwardly sweet fruitiness.

Following this rather bright and sweet opening, the scent gets a little deeper and more mysterious. There’s a prominent note of musk, which adds an animalic, sensual quality. As wear time progresses, the woodier elements of the scent also become more apparent. Ambrette and benzoin add a spicy and smoky woodiness that balances the scent out beautifully.

8. Louis Vuitton Rose Des Vents

Louis Vuitton Rose De Vents has a rather complicated creation story for a rosy, floral fragrance. The scent uses rose de mai, a rare and beautiful rose harvested exclusively in spring in the Grasse region of the South of France. Instead of using heat to extract the scent, Cavallier Belletrud instead used a high-tech carbon dioxide extraction technique.

This cool scent extraction technique helps to preserve all the different elements of the rose’s fragrance. This makes Roses De Vents one of the most complex and interesting perfumes of rosy makeup on the market today.

As you could probably guess, the scent is based around a trio of roses. Alongside that rare and beautiful rose de mai, there are also notes of Turkish and Bulgarian rose. This floral accord is supported by the sweet strangeness of iris pallida, which adds some mystery to the rosy bouquet.

Green, refreshing top notes, with juicy hits of peach and blackcurrant, help add a fresh and fruity vibe to the scent. It’s rounded out by a deep a smoky set of base notes, with orris root, violet leaf, cedar, and black pepper keeping the scent intriguing right until the very end.

Louis Vuitton Apogée eau de parfum is a white floral fragrance with some extra depth. Many people find white florals to be a little dated and cloying, but this scent is made beautifully fresh and modern with the addition of citrus accords in its top notes, and woody accords at its base.

Apogée begins as a rather fruity affair. Juicy tangerine and orange start things off on an uplifting, refreshing, and joyful note. These juicy beginnings give way to a heart of white flowers, with lily of the valley, magnolia, rose, and jasmine each getting their time to shine.

But to help balance out these rather light and bright notes, Apogée has a surprisingly deep and sensual set of base notes. There’s an alluring accord of musks and woods to add some structure and strength. You’ll notice guaiac wood, sandalwood, and oud wood all doing the work in grounding and enhancing this hedonistic perfume experience.

The heart notes of the scent are more conventionally beachy. There are rosemary and thyme notes, which give the impression of sunbathing near some sun-baked shrubbery. You should also be able to pick up on the warming, earthy note of sun-dappled sand.

The fragrance’s base notes are built around the cypress tree. This comforting, resinous hit is reminiscent of taking a breather from the shoreline and finding some much-needed shade under a fragrant evergreen.

Louis Vuitton Heures D’Absence is a fragrance designed to evoke timeless moments of total freedom. Spritzing it on is like taking a short and much-needed break from reality, and allowing your mind to wander freely. It’s evocative of a beautiful walk through a blossoming meadow on a glorious summer’s day.

Heures D’Absence is packed with fragrant floral notes. Rather than feeling like being a flower market, though, there’s an outdoorsy wildness to these blooms. You’ll notice notes of jasmine and mimosa flowers, alongside Louis Vuitton’s signature rose de mai and the heady blossom of pittosporum.

There’s more to this scent than just windswept flowers, though. There’s a prevalent note of raspberry, which adds a hint of gourmand sweetness. This is supported by a base note of indulgently sweet and creamy vanilla. Musk and sandalwood base notes offer some extra depth and sensuality and prevent this airy fragrance from feeling insubstantial.

Louis Vuitton Matière Noire is a fragrance that’s designed around contrasts. It’s elegant and complex and is sometimes described as otherworldly because of its unique note combination. While it is a niche scent, it’s still deliciously accessible and easy to wear, too.

Matière Noire has opening notes that blend sticky blackcurrant syrup with watery, aquatic elements. This creates the first contrast of the scent – something rich and heavy, with some refreshing and light.

The heart notes of the scent are a big bouquet of different flowers. While in the hands of a less skilled perfumer, this cacophony of aromas could create a clash, in this scent, it really works. Rose, cyclamen, narcissus, and jasmine sambac all play well together, while still standing out individually.

The base notes offer a slightly more masculine contrast with the floral sweetness. There’s woodiness, courtesy of oud and benzoin, plus a herbaceous hit of patchouli. The standout star, though, is the smoky sensuality brought in through that prominent yet mysterious note of incense.

14. Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade

Ombre Nomade is a darker, deeper, and spicer scent within the Louis Vuitton range. It has a strong accord of amber, which offers a more exotic, oriental sweetness. But there are also some brighter, more fruity notes to uplift the scent and keep it wearable.

Ombre Nomade has a prominent note of oud. This aromatic, woody accord is supported by plenty of other woody elements. There’s benzoin, amber wood, and even the slightly offbeat addition of birch to round out the woodiness.

Alongside these woody notes, the scent has both a floral and a fruity accord to brighten and add balance. A discerning nose will pick out juicy raspberry, blooming rose and geranium petals, plus that unique bittersweet spiciness of saffron. There’s also a smoky and evocative vibe to the scent thanks to a base note of incense.

Louis Vuitton Les Sables Roses is the brand’s deeper and more musky take on a rose scent. The titular rose is balanced with fragrant oud wood, offering a fragrance that walks the line between sweet freshness and smoky depths.

Les Sables Roses employs two different types of rose: Turkish and Bulgarian. This gives the rose note of the perfume a well-roundedness and complexity. The unique, slightly bitter floral of saffron also helps elevate the rosiness into something exotic and unusual.

The oud wood side of the scent is similarly supported by ambergris. This unusual, slightly salty, musky skin scent adds some extra sensuality. There’s also an intriguing note of black pepper which gives the fragrance some vibrant spice and makes the whole perfume come alive.
