In last week’s post I discussed the 6 Best Ways To Make Money Blogging and I mentioned that ads are a great way to make money passively on your blog.

You might already be familiar with Google Adsense, but did you know that there are many other premium ad networks that pay you WAY more than Google?

Yes, you read that right! In today’s post I’m going to discuss how to make money with Ezoic, a rather new Ads platform that allows you to make between $10-$25 per thousand pageviews.

How Do Websites Make Money With Ads?

There are two ways in which you can make money with ads: You can either sign up to a platform that offers…

  1. Pay Per Click (PPC) ads
  2. Revenue per thousand views (RPM)

The most common way of monetizing a site with ads is with the RPM model, and some premium ad networks even pay publishers $20+ RPM! It’s important to note that different networks pay different amounts for their bloggers and that RPM also depends on your niche as well as the season.

Some of the highest-earning niches include:

  • Finance
  • Parenting
  • Food

Also, it’s well known in the blogging world that Q4 is the highest paying quarter. My RPM was up to $28 during Black Friday last year! In contrast to that, lower paying ad platforms like Google Adsense are only known to pay about $2-4 per 1,000 views.

Will Ads Have A Negative Impact On My Readers?

The short answer is heck no!

Many bloggers are put off by ads because they fear that they look bad on the site and slow it down. The truth is, this was also my concern when I first got started with ads. I wanted to give them a go, but I wasn’t sure if I would stick with them if they had a negative effect on my readers’ user experience.

Now, almost a year later I can say that I’m still absolutely loving having ads on my site. My initial fears turned out to be just that.

What ended up happening was the opposite: ads had no real effect on my readers’ user experience. I monitored how long people were staying on my site before installing ads and after I installed ads and it didn’t change! My revenue from other sources like affiliate marketing also stayed the same.

Advertising now brings in about $600-$1,000 per month here on my blog. This is money that is completely passive and it’s one of my favorite ways of making money online!

My Ad Platform Of Choice For New Bloggers: Ezoic

Switching from Google Adsense to Ezoic can give your blog income an instant 50-250% boost in revenue, if not more. The typical RPM’s that you’ll see on Ezoic are about $6-$10 compared to $2-4 on Google Adsense.

The reason why I recommend Ezoic to new bloggers is because it’s relatively easy to get accepted by them and because they are part of the Google Ad Exchange. The official recommendation that they have on their website is that you should have 10,000+ sessions / month in order to apply, but some people have also reported that they’ve gotten accepted with 3,000 sessions / month.

So, you can still give it a go if you have less than 10,000 sessions / month.

How Much Money Can I Expect From Ezoic?

Like I mentioned previously, the average RPM for Ezoic is between $6-$10. So, for every 1,000 sessions on your page, you can expect to get paid between $6-10. So, assuming you have 10,000 sessions per month, you could make an extra $60-$100 simply by switching to Ezoic!

How To Apply

Getting started with Ezoic is easy! To create your account, head over to Ezoic, scroll down and click on “create account”:

How To Get Approved To Ezoic

  • Traffic Minimum: 10,000 / sessions per month (Some websites have gotten approved with 3,000 sessions / month too!)
  • Publisher Language Requirement: Must be primarily English
  • Publisher Terms:
  • Restrictions: No Adult, pornographic or any illegal content. No Tobacco, alcohol, ammunition, hazardous substances, illegal drugs, gore, violence, gambling and racism content. No Pages containing profanity or content that and/or discriminates or is offensive to any section of people (Hate, violence, racial intolerance, or advocate against any individual, group, or organization.) No Sale of prescription drugs. No sale of counterfeit products, imitations of designer or other goods, stolen items or any products that infringe intellectual property rights.
  • Payout: Paid monthly via bank transfer, $20 min
  • Offer Types: RPM (revenue per thousand viewers)

What Alternatives To Ezoic Are There?

If you have less than 10,000 monthly visits to your blog, you can still make money from ads on your blog. For this I recommend Media.Net. Their earning rate is similar to Google Adsense (for some niches Media.Net is higher), and you also get +10% of your earnings for the first 3 months!

Media.Net is very similar to Google Adsense in the way that there aren’t any minimum requirements that you need to meet – anyone can join!

For bloggers who have more than 25,000 sessions / month, I recommend joining Mediavine. This is the ad platform that I use on The Chic Pursuit, and I love it! My average RPM is around $15, even $20+ in Q4.

Bloggers who have over 100,000 pageviews / month can apply to AdThrive.

AdThrive is widely regarded as having the best RPMs in the display ads industry. However, they are very picky about who they work with, and reject more than 75% of applicants. They seem to prefer bloggers from the parenting, food and home making niches (very PG-13).
