What’s Up In April? (My Worst Month In A Long Time)
Dang it, April was a pretty stressful month for the blog. My blog was completely wiped off from the Internet for a few days and I had to spend the last 2 weeks fixing it. It’s still not back to normal! So, if you are seeing some glitches on the site, I apologize for that. I’m still working on it.
So what happened?
In April, I wanted to charge my host to WPX hosting from Hostgator, because I want to increase my page load speed. WPX is a hosting company catered to advanced bloggers (it’s rather expensive) and according to Matthew Woodward WPX is one of the fastest hosts around. However, changing the host turned out to be an absolute nightmare.
First off, my current host (Hostgator) straight off deleted my whole website off the face of the Internet. ALL the blog post, all the images, EVERYTHING was gone. I was just in shock. Imagine 2 years of work AND your livelihood just disappearing in front of your eyes. It felt like getting fired from a job and being left out on the street. I felt so hopeless.
Luckily I had a backup of it on my Google Drive so I managed to avoid the absolute worst case scenario. I had my blog posts back. But what I didn’t have were my 5,000 images, even though I had a full backup. All of them were gone!
WPX hosting didn’t turn out to be that great in my case, because Hostgator had messed up my site so badly. Before I can even think about moving host again, I need to fix my website.
So, what I did next was that I spent the whole of last week chatting with Hostgator support and chasing them with emails. Nothing was done. Absolutely nothing. So I had to hire a developer. Within the first 30 minutes, he was able to pinpoint my problem.
Lesson learned – when you’re struggling with tech stuff, hire someone ASAP to save you time.
Even though the guy told me what to do, I still had to do a lot of work manually. And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing for the last week: I was only able to save half of the images from my backup, so I had to manually re-upload over 2,5000 images. Gosh, it felt so draining. But I’m pretty sure that I’ve done most of the work now.
Needless to say, I strongly dislike Hostgator and would never recommend anyone to use it. This is why I always advise beginner bloggers to start blogging with Bluehost or Siteground. Both of their customer service is top notch.
There is no way that I’m going to stay with Hostgator long term, but I need to get my website fixed fully before I can start thinking about relocating my blog.
So, to end this rant, be careful who you host with. Also, always have a backup of your site. I thought that my site was safe, but something still went wrong. That’s why I’m now going to upgrade to Updraft Premium, which will have a clone of my website available at all times.
On a positive note, I was also on holiday in Greece for 5 days which was awesome. My boyfriend’s uncle had his 70th birthday party and the whole extended family was invited along. It was super fun!
I also started working on my other blog, where I talk about my journey with investing. If you’re interested in that kind of stuff, check it out.

Even though my blog’s been a mess for the past 2 weeks, I was surprised to see that my traffic and income didn’t plummet as badly as I thought they would. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve suffered, but I’m still making some money and my traffic is still there.
On the screenshot you can see the first two days of when this whole catastrophy begun – at this point, visitors were arriving at an empty blog page.
Want To Boost Your Own Traffic?
If you’re looking to start boosting your own traffic and earning more money, there’s two realistic options for you: go for either Google traffic (slow) or Pinterest traffic (fast).
I’ve recently started implementing an aggressive Pinterest and Tailwind Tribes strategy on my blog, and I quickly went from getting 50,000 monthly pageviews to 90,000 in the span of 3 months by using two awesome sources: the Pinterest Traffic Avalanche course and my own strategies in Explosive Traffic With Tribes.
(Note: These figures are based on my own results. Have a look at the typical results across all Tailwind members here!)
With 100 pages of hands-on, no BS strategies that WORK, Explosive Traffic With Tribes is an awesome step-by-step blueprint for bloggers to reach 90,000 pageviews with just 30 minutes of work per day. I highly recommend Explosive Traffic With Tribes if 1) You’re looking to increase your traffic 2) You’ve tried everything with Pinterest and nothing’s worked.
After taking Pinterest Traffic Avalanche, I achieved some success with Pinterest, but my blog traffic didn’t really blow up until I started using Tailwind Tribes in my strategy!
Howver, if you’re a complete newbie to Pinterest, the Pinterest Traffic Avalanche course will be an excellent place to start learning!

What Worked In April
My goal for April was to make my usual $3,100 WITHOUT sponsorships. And I made more than that, wohoo! However, that’s still a far cry from making my eventual target of $8,333/month, which equates to six figures per year.
What really made it possible to earn over $3,100 without doing any sponsorships in April was an email marketing promotion that I did, as well as creating more pins for affiliate products.
I’m constantly in awe of email marketing. I mean, I only have 500 people on my email list now, but even with that amount of subscribers I was able to make $175 this month directly from email! I was pretty blown away.
I’ve read plenty of information on how to do proper email marketing, and I’ve concluded that it’s best to write regular emails every week that have tons of value, but also run promotions every 45 days or so.
In April, I ran one of these promotions (the Genius Blogger’s Toolkit) and made 4 sales – I couldn’t believe it!
Whenever I try new things in my business, my default thinking is always: “I’m gonna do my best, but it’s probably going to fail”. It might not be the best way of thinking, but it keeps my expectations in check.
I will show up and do what I’m supposed to do, but if it fails it’s also okay. And when things actually DO work, it’s an awesome feeling!
Even though I’ve had my setbacks last month, I’m going to continue creating more content that is aimed to increase the sales of my own products as well as affiliate products. I’m also working on editing a few videos for my Youtube channel, which will hopefully be up very soon!
